Frequently Asked (W) Questions
Applications and Drops
Who can I apply?
Players may apply any characters from a fictional media, including original characters and alternate universe versions of characters. Fictional medias include books, video games, television series, movies, and anime/manga. Fictional representations of historical figures will be considered on a case by case basis, personifications of countries on the other hand, are eligible for application. Due to the setting non-humanoid characters (Transformers, talking animals, A.I., etc.) will also be considered, however if their size in canon will not fit into the morgue, they must either be sized down to human size upon arrival, or put in a human body. We leave this to the player’s discretion.

Who am I unable to apply?
Historical figures, real life people and celebrities, and fandom original characters are not eligible for application. Characters from fictional medias with little to no background or personality development will be considered on a case by case basis. Should you wish to apply with a character of this nature, please contact the mods first.

Can I apply for an original character?
Absolutely! We encourage creativity, and this includes allowing original characters to be applied. However, fandom original characters will NOT be eligible for application. We do not require you to play a canon character before you are eligible to app an original character, however know that original character applications will be scrutinized very closely.

My character is already here! Can I still app them?
Yes. We allow up to two of the same character in game at one time. Only ONE can be from original canon, however. The second potential version of the same character must be an Alternate universe version of that character.

So what counts as an AU?
Canon alternate universes are universes wherein the canon itself has more than one interpretation of that character, or male and female leads for the same series. Examples of these include Batman the Animated Series vs. Batman Arkham City/Asylum, or Kingdom Hearts Cloud vs. Final Fantasy VII Cloud. An example of male and female leads is Shepard of Mass Effect. They are essentially the same characters, however come from different universes, and therefore can be defined as 'au'.

Fandom Alternative Universes are an AU that you yourself have built for that character. For this to be valid a character must have an obvious and substantial difference to their timeline or history between the canon and the AU. This does NOT mean that a AU character can be wildly ooc; AU's should still be recognizable and retain key personality aspects of that character. Fandom AU's will be judged on a case by case basis, and if there isn't enough evidence of differences between canon and AU we reserve the right to reject, or ask for revisions upon apps.

What about headcanon? How much can I use?
For the most part mods reserve the use of headcanon for AU characters and OU characters who have very limited screen time. While we don't mind some headcanon stated as such in an application extensive use of headcanon in an OU application may result in being asked for a revision to cut it down. Everyone has headcanon for a character but when it is brought heavily into an OU application it makes it hard to judge the application on canon merits, so please keep that in mind!

What if my character is dead? Can I app them, too?
Absolutely! It makes waking up in the morgue pretty unpleasant though, don’t you think? Dead characters will also have steeper penalties if they die again in Abax. Dead characters also have the option of having their 'Cause of Death' filled in on their toe tag, it simply needs to be included as a note on the application. Dead characters upon arrival, will feel as though they are alive again. They will need to eat, sleep, breath, all the functions they would have needed while they were living.

What if I want to choose my own case number for my toe tag?
Simple! You need only follow the following rule. Case numbers, for those of you choosing your own should consist of a sequence of three two digit numbers (00-00-00). The first TWO must be between 1-60, but the final number can be any number between 1-99. (60-60-99)

Is there a character limit?
Yes. The current limit one person may play is five. This may change in the future, and in time can be negotiated to six if the player can prove that they are able to be active with their current cast of characters.

Can I play more than one character from the same canon?
Yes, you may play up to two characters from the same canon, but please keep in mind that these characters will be relatively unable to interact with each other. Apping twins on the other hand, will be considered on a case by case basis.

Can I be my own facetwin?
Nope! Sorry, we do not allow one player to have the same PB for multiple characters.

Can I canon update my character?
Yes, but first you must fill out the Canon Update Request form and the mods will review your request. Once approved, your character will disappear from Abax for a period of seven days, and upon return they will once again wake up in the morgue absent of their valuables or anything that they had on them before leaving for their canon update. During a canon update they will return home at the exact moment they left, with no memory of ever having been in Abax. Upon return to Abax, they will once again remember the time they had spent prior to leaving the city.

Are we able to reuse samples from another game?
Yes.

Are we allowed to carry over character relations or character development from another roleplay?
Yes, all we ask is that you fill out the section of the application form for transferring CR as detailed as possible.

Can I apply for a character that has been dropped from the game?
Yes. As soon as a character has been officially removed from the game they become re-eligible for application.

Can I reapply for a character I’ve dropped?
Yes, all we ask is that you provide us with some fresh samples in your application.
Game Mechanics

WHERE THE HELL AM I?
You're in Abax dear. Never heard of it? That's all right, you have all the time in the world to learn about it. This is a big city after all, and lots to explore. Be careful though, we hear there's some pretty weird stuff that goes on in this place.

But WHY are we here?
Honestly we have just as many questions about that as you do. Perhaps someday if you keep digging, you'll find an answer. Maybe the city was lonely. It is empty, after all.

How do I get back?
Get back where? Your home? Don’t you want to stay with us a little while longer? We were so nice to invite you, after all...

What will I have on me/with me?
When you arrive in the morgue you have been stripped of all your belongings. You will have only the tag on your foot, a thin paper shift (think a hospital gown made of very thin tissue paper), and a cell phone of medium size in hand. (We leave it up to the player's digression to choose a phone type/style, should they wish.) Your weapons? Gone. Your mother’s necklace? Vanished without a trace. Your clothes? Guess what, those are gone too. Oh don’t worry! There are stores around for that, we just hope you’re not too self conscious walking there naked.
Note: Characters UNDER the age of 16 will not receive a thin paper hospital gown. Instead, they'll receive paper PJ's that are of a slightly thicker, less see-through quality. They tear very easily, however, and are not fit for long-term wear.

Do I have any powers here?
Sure do! Any powers you had back at home will be exactly as they were, no restrictions. Weird, huh?

One of my powers is being able to summon things, so I don't have to do the walk of shame! Haha!
Slow down there champ! Nice try, but think again! While you can absolutely use your powers to summon something into Abax, it won't arrive as you want it to. That nice uniform of yours you wanted? What you'll get instead is a pink leotard and a tutu. A nice shiny set of knives? Nice try, now they're dull, bent, and possibly in an off shade of puce.
Think of it like this: You're passing through customs, and the border patrol is going through your things. They break your things, or trade them for other people's things, and then give you back your suitcase. That's how summoning in Abax works. You will never get what you've intended, but you will get something! We leave it up to the player's digression as to whether or not they wish for their summon to be comical or utterly inconvenient. If you need ideas, feel free to contact the mods.

How does time work in Abax?
It’s all relative, baby. But seriously, one day in game is the equivalent of one game in real life. That means one week = one week. Simple, right?

So...do any of the clocks work here?
Yes, the clock tower’s clock is fully functional. If you ever want to know what time it is (not that it matters), all you have to do is look up! We don’t suggest trying to climb it and investigate, though.

How can I tell what day it is?
You’d better get out a calender and start crossing them off. Or you could check out the moon, it still goes through it’s phases like normal- except it’s around 25/7 instead of it’s usual twelve hours a day.

What’s up with the lights? And all of the other electronics for that matter?
Probably the same thing that is up with the clocks! The lights don’t seem to turn on or off, not unless they’re already on or vice-versa. The cell phone you were given doesn’t seem to turn off, either. And it never needs to charge. It seems to be the same with all of the electronics in the city, actually... Although it’s strangely quiet here. Only a few places seem to still have music and sound. TV’s that are on display only snow, but make no noise and cannot be turned off. Refrigerators seem to work- but none of the stoves seem to be on. In fact, nothing that generates heat will turn on or is working at all! Man, it’s sure going to be cold when the snow starts falling... Hope you know how to build a fire!

Wait, does that mean the city has running water?
Sure does! It’s just all rather cold. No heaters, remember? You could always boil it to get it nice and hot, though.

Why is it always night time?
Because we’re all secretly vampires and the sunlight would kill us. Just kidding! But that is a really good question! …

Are there seasons at Abax? It’s hard to tell when it’s so dark!
What, you missed that foot of snow on the ground? Or how about those leaves piling up and- man, is it getting hot out or is it just me? You should really pay more attention!

That guy just blew up my house!
Don’t worry, it will be as good as new tomorrow. This place has a tendency to well- take care of itself. Be careful though, just because the buildings regenerate doesn’t mean the food or clothing supplies do though! Waste not want not, right?

How do things regenerate?
Oh, we have no idea. You’ll have to take it up with upper management- ...is there upper management? Maybe you should ask around. If you can find anyone to ask!

How are we supposed to get around?
You have legs, don’t you? I suppose you can always try the train system, but good luck getting one to wait for you. And there’s plenty of cars around- but they’re all dead. It’s a shame, really. You could always look for a bicycle.

What if I just decided to leave, walk right out of the city huh?!
Go ahead, give it a go. We’ll see you in a few hours when you loop back around. Oh- did we forget to mention? The city line is an endless loop. Think of it like a mobius strip, with no beginning and no end. You can start at one point, but eventually you’ll just end up right back where you started, even if you walked in a straight line!

But I can see an ocean, and other landmarks in the distance!
You sure can! But nobody said anything about reaching them yet, now did they? Keep trying, though. It’s always entertaining to watch that frustrating loop.

Is there anywhere I can get food and other supplies?
You tell me. After all, there’s a whole city around you chock full of anything you could want- the question is, can you find it? As we mentioned before, be careful, though. The buildings may fix themselves but the food sure isn’t endless. Things don’t seem to expire though... Weird. Well at least no one will have to involuntarily eat blue cheese!

What about wild animals? Can I hunt game?
Nope. There’s not even so much as a pigeon in sight. When they arrive, there is absolutely no one in the city. No NPC’s, no wild birds, no raccoons, no rats, no one and nothing. Just your big, ordinary inauspicious empty city.

Where am I supposed to live?!
Anywhere you’d like to! You do know you’re in a massive empty city, right? I mean if you really wanted to you could blow up a bouncy castle in the fish section of the grocery store and sleep there. Me? I’ll be in the ball pit.

Wait- can I die here?!
Of course you can! And trust us, it’s just as unpleasant as you’d expect. After seven days though, we’ll see you again. But what happens during those seven days while you’re missing, well... Lets just say it gives us the chills thinking about it. So you’d better avoid it, as the consequences only get subsequently worse every time it happens.

Can my character kill or be killed by another character?
Of course! Just make sure all parties involved have expressed their permission for it.

What happens during death?
Terrible things. Death penalties will be decided on a case by case basis, and can range from returning without ones’ powers for a determined period of time, to losing senses, to being ‘cursed’. So try not to die! During events in which your character can die, the mods will post a comment under which you can sign your character up to die and receive a death penalty. Any other time you're in the mood for some character killin', head on over to our Death Penalties page and the mods will assign you one.

Are death penalties permanent?
No, the effects of your character's first death penalty will last for one week. Every subsequent death thereafter though, the penalties become more extreme and last longer.

What other things can I find in the city?
What can you dream up? You can find anything that you could find in a modern city. Just keep in mind certain types of shops and housing can only be found in certain districts in the city. For more information, check out the Locations Post.

Can I start my own business/club/restaurant/mafia base?
Absolutely! Simply fill out the form for a Point of Interest over on the Locations post and we’ll gladly make a note of whatever it is you’d like to add to our lovely city.

Are you ever actually going to answer any of these questions?!
In due time.

How do my characters interact with other characters in Abax?
Each character is given a handheld device- a cellphone, upon waking up in the morgue. Journal posts can be made to [community profile] abaxcity in text, audio, or video formats. Your characters may set up privacy filters, all we ask is that the player specifies whether or not the lock is hackable or unhackable to other characters who may have that sort of technological savvy. Please make sure to remember to tag your entries. Also remember, anything above PG-13 should be placed behind an LJ-cut and f-locked to the community!

What about actions? What if I want to openly interact?
That’s what the logs comm is for! Head on over to [community profile] abaxlogs, fill out the handy HTML, found here and you’re good to put whatever your little black heart would like into that log. Please remember, anything above PG-13 should be placed behind an LJ-cut and f-locked to the community!

So how does the tag system work?
In the Main community ([community profile] abaxcity) all characters who tag start or tag into a post should post their tag (character canon: character name) to that tag. The same rule applies to logs ([community profile] abaxlogs), when you tag into a log thread simply add your tag to the post in question.

Activity Check, Hiatuses, and Miscellaneous
What about activity check?
Activity check is posted on the first of every month. All we ask for is:
Two threads, at least ten comments each total, five comments per character.

These threads can be from either [community profile] abaxcity or [community profile] abaxlogs to qualify. In the simplest terms, your character needs ten comments of their own dispersed between two threads or logs to meet AC.
Filtered posts submitted to only one or two people do count for activity check, however only one of your examples can be locked to two or less characters.

Will I have to worry about activity check right away upon arriving in the game?
No, for the first month after you have joined Abax you are exempt from activity check.

What if I need to take a Hiatus?
Simply fill out our form over at the Hiatus post. Any hiatus taken for less than two weeks will NOT be exempt for Activity Check, however if something comes up and your hiatus is unexpectedly lengthened you also will not be penalized or kicked from the game, so long as you contact us. A hiatus does not count if you merely post it to the OOC comm. It is only official if it goes in the Hiatus post.

So what does the ‘W’ in FA(W)Q stand for?
That information is withheld.
