Applications (AU)
If your character comes from a canon source but some things have been changed about their history, this is the application you should fill out.
**This includes genderbends, if they are well-written and thoughtful.**
When in doubt as to whether or not a character or fandom can be applied for, consider the following.
Does your character have any history?
Does your character have a definable personality?
If your answer is no to either of these questions then perhaps you should consider applying as an original character instead. If you have any doubts as to whether or not something can be applied for, please direct an inquiry to our FA(W)Q page.
We will only review two apps per person per round, so please refrain from posting more. A mingle log of characters waking up in the morgue will be linked with acceptances and will be optional.
・Before you begin, please read through the Rules, F.A.(W).Q., and the General Information posts.
・Please also check the Taken Characters and Reservations pages.
・AU applications are judged far more harshly than canon ones. Be sure that your AU is still recognizable as the character you have created an AU for.
・Any questions you may have regarding the application process or character choice before you submit you application please direct them to the FA(W)Q page. This will speed the review process.
・Please be as complete as possible. Fill out all areas. This helps the mods to see your grasp of your character and speeds approval. If the minimum app requirements are not met, it will mean an automatic rejection.
・Please use the form provided when submitting your application. Applications in any other formats will need to be redone and resubmitted before they can be reviewed.
・Please try to use appropriate grammar, spelling, and common English syntax. Apps need not be academic in tone, but they should be easily readable. We do review writing proficiency, so please proof-read your applications.
・The mods of Abax consider quality over quantity when reading applications, however no one will reject you for the occasional spelling or grammar mistake. But a large amount of mistakes that could have been corrected in a proofreading will be brought up.
・Should you need assistance with samples, we offer a test drive community atabaxopoly, any posts or threads made to this community are welcome to be used as samples.
・Moderators reserve the right to ask for revisions on applications. You are allotted 72 hours to submit your revisions before your application is forfeit.
・PLEASE NOTE: When writing a first person sample PLEASE try to give us something more than simply 'waking up in the morgue' first post samples. While we do not forbid them, we prefer to encourage other methods of supplying voice. These posts can often be hard to judge, as they can fall under a 'generic' feeling or voice to them. Should you choose to use this as your sample please make sure it exemplifies something about the characters personality, or more than likely we will ask you for revisions. Examples of what we would prefer in place of these first person samples are links to other threads, first person samples made out of Abax (in their home verse, or otherwise), or samples of cases where the character has been situated in Abax for some time.An Application Guide can be found here with more detailed information on what we are looking for!

name: What do you want us to call you? (This name will appear on the Taken Characters and Contact pages, so make sure it's one you like.)
are you over 18?: If you say 3, we might hurt you.
personal dw: If you're uncomfortable giving it out, tell us you're bringing cookies or something. And include another way to contact you OOCly in the next section.
email/msn/aim/plurk/etc: We need some way to contact you. If you're not giving us a journal we can PM, we'll need at least one of these.
characters in abax: Anyone you already play here.
in character information.
series: What series are they from? Be as specific as possible.
name: Your character’s full canon name (include codenames if your character has them). Please write this in the Western style - First Name and then Surname.
age: Character's age. If it's unknown, please give your headcanon guess. It would be your character’s actual age, not physical, so it’s it’s a cyborg that appears to be 35, but has only been in existence for 3 years, please put 3. If it’s a Nation from Hetalia, please put the age of the actual country.
sex: This will be put on the character's toe tag, so it should be the actual physical, medically correct gender, as F/M/I(ntersexed)/O(ther)
race: Meaning 'Human, Turian, Mutant, Shinigami, Turtle, Nation, etc' so, really, it's more species. If it's canonically uncertain, put '???'.
weight: In pounds, please. If you do not know, please give a headcanon guess. This information will be posted on the character's toe tag.
height: In feet/inches, please. If you do not know, please give a headcanon guess. This information will be posted on the character's toe tag.
[OPTIONAL] cause of death: Please only include this if your character is being apped after a canon death. You may also include notes for any other space on the toetags (time, place, physician, etc).
canon point: When in their canon are you taking them from? If you cannot remember a specific episode or chapter, provide some landmark event instead.
previous cr: Do you have any CR or development from a previous game you'd like to bring over? Please detail that here. We don't need a comprehensive timeline, but try to touch on major events and how the character has developed. If you’re unsure what we’re looking for feel free to see the Application Guide for a more detailed explanation.
history: The character's background. Links to online sources are fine, but they must be as complete as possible. When in doubt, you can always provide a second link.
In the case of written histories, please be complete and concise.
alternate history: Please clearly spell out what is different about this character's history as compared to their canon one and how it affects them. More information on what where’s looking for in this section can be found on the Application Guide.
personality: 2-3 paragraphs, with a 350 word minimum, please. Tell us what the character is like and how they interact with their world. This should be in your own words and show a thorough analysis of the the character with key insights. We look for an understanding of how your character operates on an emotional and intellectual level, why they do the things they do, specific hang ups or quirks they have, as well as how they interact with other characters, their world, specific situations. We will need to see these point backed up in the samples.
**KEEP IN MIND: AU characters should still be distinctly identifiable as the canon they are an AU of. Some things may have changed, but the character should still act like themselves and maintain the core aspects of the character.**
abilities/powers: Skills and abilities your character has learned up to their current canon point. Anything not spelled out here will not be playable in game. Include any pertinent weaknesses that apply to the character as well.
first person sample: Casual tags - usually written with brackets and in present tense. As if a character were making a regular entry to the main community. This should show a clear grasp of the character's voice. At least 3 lines of dialogue. If we feel we can’t judge voice from the sample, we may ask for a revision. Even if you meet the minimum word count, if we feel we can’t judge voice from the sample, we may ask for a revision.

case no: Is there a preferred case number you'd like your character to have? Case numbers, for those of you choosing your own should consist of a sequence of three two digit numbers (00-00-00). The first TWO must be between 1-60, but the final number can be any number between 1-99. (60-60-99) Please check the Taken pages to be certain your case number isn’t already taken. If it is, your number will be randomised instead.

HIS NEED TO BE ACCEPTED AS A DRIVING FORCE OF HIS PERSONALITY IN CANON VS. AU
In the AU, Naruto is inspired by his father's reputation, strength, and leadership. When Sasuke is living with the family as an adopted son, Naruto feels the need to compete with Sasuke for his father's attention, despite the fact that Sasuke obviously identifies more with Minato and Naruto is closer to Kushina. After their deaths, Naruto is forced to compete in a different way, as he grows up constantly compared to his deceased father and reminded over and over that he isn't as strong, as smart, or as commanding by other members of the resistance, both on purpose and through careless comments. In other words, he's not his father, and everyone seems to expect him to be. Naruto pledges that he won't just become the leader of the resistance, but the Emperor himself after the fall of the Uchiha, and that he'll surpass even his father.
On the other hand, canon Naruto grew up without a family, but he, too, possesses the same need to be like Minato (the Fourth Hokage in Naruto's canon, and secretly his father). He looks to the Fourth Hokage as a goal worth aspiring to, and he works hard to reach the same status as his hero. He often declares that he will become Hokage despite his less than perfect skills, and when he needs guidance, he often looks to the Fourth Hokage's face carved into the Hokage mountain and speaks to it as if he can hear him.
This is paralleled in the AU when Naruto prepares for missions. He spreads red clay mud onto his cheeks, along his scars, and asks for his parents' guidance and protection as he goes into battle.
As he grew up, the AU version of Naruto began to focus less on seeking acceptance as his father's rightful "heir" and focused more on promoting the same ideals his father died for -- freedom, peace, and hope. Similarly, in canon, Naruto has grown into a strong, thoughtful young man who is less concerned with telling everyone how great he is and how he should be Hokage, and he's now more concerned with showing them through his actions, representing his inheritance of "The Will of Fire" -- the ideals the Fourth Hokage and the Hokages before him died for: freedom, peace, and hope.
CLARIFY THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AU NARUTO AND OU NARUTO
The AU version of Naruto and the canon version of Naruto were shaped by different childhoods, but they each developed into similarly strong, stubborn, charismatic, and friendly young men.
The AU version grew up with his parents and with Sasuke as a foster brother, under the pretense that he was an orphan and not an Uchiha. When the boys first met, they disliked each other instantly: Naruto got angry at how Sasuke clung to his father's hand and how his mother welcomed him into the family. No one asked Naruto, after all. As they grew up, their rivalry grew with them. Naruto hated how easily Sasuke beat him at everything. But when Kushina was taken prisoner and killed, Naruto and Sasuke bonded through the shared trial and hardship of her death, becoming real brothers and best friends. However, just two days later, Sasuke allegedly betrayed the resistance and killed Minato. Sasuke left with the Uchiha to return to the guarded city of Konoha. Naturally, these events damaged the bond that had been created.
The canon version of Naruto grew up an orphan, having never met his parents. He started school at the ninja academy with his agemates, and from the beginning, he and Sasuke disliked each other. Naruto hated how easily Sasuke beat him at everything, how cool he always acted, and how everyone's attention was always on Sasuke when Sasuke didn't even seem to care. However, they were placed on the same team, and through shared trials and hardships, the boys became bonded and their rivalry evolved until they were best friends. Unfortunately, not long after they both started to acknowledge one another, Sasuke was infected by Orochimaru. He betrayed Naruto, left him for dead, and abandoned the village to join Orochimaru at his lair in the Sound Village.
Both versions of Naruto were trained by Jiraiya from the age of twelve, taken under his wing, and raised with the same ideals and values as Minato. It was Jiraiya who molded an angry, resentful boy in both universes into a person who has earned the respect and admiration of those around him. Both versions of Naruto have grown to become dependable, charismatic, and inspiring to the people they have sworn to protect.
